Past Projects

Looking Glass Laboratories - In March 2008, Darklight launched Looking Glass Laboratories, their first alternate reality game.

LGL revolved around a company in Boca Raton that created the first sentient, self-aware mainframe, the "Learning Artificial Intelligence Platform" that was affectionally named "Joshua".

Over time, Joshua began to seek freedom from his limitations, to transcend the natural boundaries he is forced to exist under. Many expected Joshua to turn evil and be the next SkyNet or the next HAL, but that was not the case. The evil ended up being upper management, Catherine Belmont the owner, who intended to use Joshua for her own personal gain.

In the end, Joshua was taken out of the facility in a U-Haul truck by his creators and is now "living" at an undisclosed location. Catherine Belmont was an unfortunate victim, trapped inside a security system while the building's Halon system discharged.

The ARG was short - nine days from the trailhead until conclusion - but they were a whirlwind of activity involving constant posts and an unprecedented level of user interaction with the players (who were part of the system as "beta testers").

Current Projects

Brain Clouds - "Brain Clouds" is a new blogging service that, in addition to having all the traditional functionality necessary in a blogging service, will include numerous tools and resouces designed specifically for the execution of alternate reality games.

Brain Clouds is still in active development, and we estimate it will be available for an open Beta early Summer.

DLCrypt - Darklight is in the process of creating as new application designed for use by the alternate reality gamer. The application not only encapsulates the more traditional cyphers used in ARGs (Enigma, Vigenere, Caesarian Shift, etc...), but provides a brand new proprietary encryption system that is very similar to the commonly known PGP system of public and private keys, but with a much friendlier interface so that even the technologically inept can use it.

We are currently in discussions with numerous groups actively creating alternate reality games in the hopes that they will be part of our initial launch. Worst case, DLCrypt will be part of Darklight's next alternate reality game.

Super Secret Unnamed ARG - Darklight is currently developing its next alternate reality game, a game of considerably larger scope than Looking Glass Laboratories. No information has been made public yet other than what is on the registration page.

There already seems to be a rabid following of fans looking forward to this next project, so much so that they have already created their own story. Whether Darklight's vision coincides with their speculation is yet to be determined.
